Mental Wellness
and Connections

Empowering Westview's Wellness Journey

We want our students at Westview High School to realize their full potential, be able to cope with the stresses of life, work productively and make meaningful contributions to their communities. To help in this wellness journey the Westview Mental Wellness and Connections (MWC) Committee is committed to bring various events to campus for our students to allow them to de-stress and connect with their peers.

We want our parents and caregivers to be able to support our Westview students and staff.  In order to help parents/caregivers cope with the stresses of life and raising teens, the MWC committee sponsors evening events with speakers on wellness topics and how to manage stress.  We also host social gatherings so parents/caregivers can connect with other parents/caregivers and Westview administration to help build community and connection.

We want our Westview teachers and staff to feel supported and appreciated so they can continue to teach and support our students in the best way possible. The MWC committee donated a coffee cart for the staff lounge last year, and we plan to expand by coordinating wellness events and activities for the teachers and staff this year.

Mental Health Resources

We all need help sometimes. You are not alone. It’s okay to not feel okay. We all feel sad, anxious, upset or angry sometimes.  If you, your family or friends need resources or someone to talk to, please use these resources below:

"Mental Health includes our emotional, psychological and social well-being.  It affects how we think, feel, and act. It also helps determine how we handle stress, relate to others, and make choices. Mental health is important at every stage of life, from childhood and adolescence through adulthood."

Some events this committee has sponsored in the past include:

  • Therapy Dogs brought to campus once a quarter the week before finals

  • Games on the Plaza at lunch with Giant Jenga, Giant Connect 4, Giant Bubbles and Cornhole

  • Class Field Days at lunch with football, soccer, beach volleyball, frisbee and Spikeball

  • Open Gym every Thursday at lunch for pickup games of basketball and volleyball

  • Real Talk workshops for parents and caregivers

Please contact the Committee Chair, Jenny Oesterblad if you would like to join this committee or have any ideas you would like to see brought to campus/the Westview community.  We also need adult volunteers to make these events a reality, so please reach out if you are willing to volunteer  - many activities take place during lunchtime for one hour.  Let’s help bring in more wellness events to WHS!
